The first 2 refugee students from the project UNICORE – University Corridors for Refugees – have arrived in Catania. The project aims to increase opportunities for refugees currently residing in Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe to continue their higher education in Italy. With the support from the mentoring scheme of COMET partner Refugees Welcome Italia, students in Catania have been matched with volunteers that will help them integrate in the city.
UNICORE 4.0 is promoted by 32 Italian universities with the support of UNHCR, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Caritas Italiana, Diaconia Valdese, Centro Astalli, Refugees Welcome Italia and other partners.
